A case, and a plan for Building Math Superintelligence
India has built a formidable reputation as a global IT powerhouse.
A prolific user and service provider. Yet when it comes to deeper, foundational contributions to the technology ecosystem, the record remains surprisingly thin. This is not a lament; it is an opportunity. There have been good opportunities in the past that were not turned into successful contributions. But the current moment with AI at an inflection point may be the most significant opening yet.
We will begin with a frank look at missed opportunities, concrete historical examples of where India stood at the threshold and stepped back. Then we will pivot to the present: why the AI ecosystem creates a rare and genuine opening for India to move upstream, and what that demands of our mathematical community.
The centrepiece of the talk is a proposed roadmap for building a Mathematical SuperIntelligence Engine, a system capable of deep mathematical reasoning and an exploration of its transformative potential in education.
We will be going through concrete experiments and approaches that any motivated researcher or institution can use as first steps.
Speaker Bio
Prof. Yogananda's career spans four decades at the frontier of number theory and mathematical education. He earned his PhD from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Madras, and has held positions at IISc Bangalore, Panjab University, and SJCE Mysore.
He has been a guiding force in India's Mathematical Olympiad programme since 1989 setting questions, training teams, and leading India to its best-ever IMO performance (7th globally, 1998). He is currently the Director at DIDACS and Excelsoft Technologies, and was recently a Visiting Professor at Krea University.
