Gathered & Bound Series- Broom Making: Tradition, Ritual & Craft
GATHERED & BOUND SERIES -
This fall and winter, we are offering a series of hands-on workshops exploring all that broom making has to offer. Gather with like-minded people, learn the traditions and techniques of this timeless craft, and bind your very own brooms using natural materials. Each workshop will offer a different opportunity to explore the practical, creative, historical, and spiritual sides of broom making.
October is a month of mystery, tradition, and superstition. Join us as we explore the fascinating function, history, and symbolism of broom making.
Brooms have long been used for practical everyday tasks, home décor, seasonal traditions, and ritual practices. In this three-hour hands-on workshop, we’ll explore both the practical and spiritual aspects of brooms, from their historical uses to the role they continue to play in modern-day living.
Using natural materials and traditional techniques, you’ll create two unique handmade brooms:
A Besom — a long-handled broom, often associated with witches’ brooms and ritual traditions.
A Handheld Broom — a smaller broom perfect for everyday use, decorating your altar or sacred space, or incorporating into seasonal rituals.
Along the way, you’ll learn about traditional broom making materials, the history and symbolism surrounding brooms, and the techniques and tools used to create them.
Come embrace the spirit of October, connect with an old-world craft, and discover the magic and meaning behind the humble broom.
You’ll leave with two handmade brooms and a deeper appreciation for this timeless craft.
