About Event

Want to use technology to improve how government works?

AI can transform how government delivers services, but only if the right people are building it. This is your chance.

We're hosting a hackathon for civic technologists, government practitioners, researchers, students, and anyone who wants to build tools that help government actually deliver.

Show up. Pick a problem. Ship something by the end of the night. Judges will be on hand to give feedback and pick winners.

Suggested problems to hack include:

  • NYC Agency Challenges — Tackle real problems from city agencies: a centralized hub to demystify NYC's civil service system (DCAS), an operations dashboard for LL97 compliance (DOB), a computer vision tool for curbside freight analytics (DOT), an automated tracking system for affordability commitments (HPD). There's a whole lot to do just here in the Big Apple.

  • Service Delivery — Build agents and tools for eligibility prescreening, application support, and caseworker assist on changing policy (e.g., HR1); permitting and construction; or helping small businesses navigate incentives, loans, and grants.

  • Open Track — Bring your own problem. If it makes government work better, it counts.

Brought to you by the folks who built the State Capacity Ecosystem Hub (State Capacity Ecosystem — NYCuriosity Data) and the team from Civic Roundtable with the simple goal of driving good talent to real problems.
