[SAIPH x Pause AI] Should the world pause the most powerful AI? A working session for Filipino organizers and thinkers
Should the world pause frontier AI? And what would that mean for a country like the Philippines?
Safe AI Philippines and PauseAI Global are hosting a country call and a working session to explore what a local PauseAI chapter could shape to be. We want to hear from organizers, civil society, academics, journalists, and public-sector staff about what AI risk means for Filipino communities and what a locally grounded movement would need to get started.
PauseAI is an international grassroots movement that calls on governments to pause the development of the most powerful AI systems until they can be shown to be safe. It works through public education, campaigns, and policy engagement, mostly through volunteer-run local groups.
We'll open the program with two short talks: our Executive Director, Dani Castillo, on AI risk and the Global South, and Irina Tavera of PauseAI Global on the case for a pause and what Pause AI chapters do. Then we'll break into working tables on campaign ideas, needs, and risks, and close with concrete next steps for anyone who wants to stay involved.
Onsite seats are limited and application-based, and the online track is open to all.
[Optional] P.S. We will run under Chatham House rules: share the ideas, not who said them, so everyone can speak freely.
