About Event

Saturday, April 18th, and Sunday, April 19th, NowHere's Studio Program space opens to the public for DUMBO Open Studios, anchored by live showings of Kojiki de Creation, a new work-in-progress from artist-in-residence Maiko Kikuchi drawing on Japan's oldest mythological text.

Maiko will be in her studio both days from 1–6PM, with works on view spanning her multidisciplinary practice on view between perfomances.

Art in DUMBO's Open Studios brings together artists across the Brooklyn waterfront, opening studios and workspaces to the public. Free admission.

Live Performance: Kojiki de Creation (Work in Progress)

As part of the open studio programming, Maiko will present early-development showings of Kojiki de Creation, a new performance piece currently being developed through the NowHere Studio Program, to be performed at the Japan Society later this year.

Inspired by Kojiki (古事記, "Records of Ancient Matters"), Japan's oldest surviving historical record and anthology of myths, the work draws on video, objects, and masks to conjure a surreal, playful world of transformation. Each showing runs approximately 12 minutes and will be followed by a brief talkback.

Free and open to all guests. Showings at 2PM and 3:30PM both days, seats available on first come first serve basis.

For NowHere friends and community, there will also be a very special ‘invite only’ performance happening both Saturday and Sunday from 5PM. To attend, RSVP via the button below.

About Maiko Kikuchi

A New York–based multidisciplinary artist, Kikuchi builds handcrafted worlds rooted in the uncanny, layering memory, subconscious imagery, and poetic abstraction into work that is humorous, tender, and emotionally resonant. Her puppetry and performance works, which she writes, directs, and performs herself, have been presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Public Theater, and La MaMa Experimental Theatre, among others.
