About Event

If Crime and Punishment has been sitting on your bucket list for years, this is your chance to read it with a guide.

This series is for people who have always wanted to read Classic literature, but may have felt intimidated by the size, reputation, or difficulty of the books themselves.

Join us for a 4-week guided reading series on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, one of the most psychologically intense and morally searching novels ever written.

Each week, you’ll move through the novel with structure, context, and conversation, so you can understand what’s happening, appreciate why it matters, and experience the book without feeling like you have to figure it all out alone.

The Schedule:

Over four Monday evenings, we’ll move through the novel in sections:

  • June 22: Part 1

  • June 29: Parts 2 & 3

  • July 6: Parts 4 & 5

  • July 13: Part 6 & Epilogue

Each two-hour (6pm-8pm) session will combine lecture, guided discussion, and close text review.

You may read any translation, though the Oliver Ready translation is recommended for its balance of clarity and fidelity. Supplemental readings may be shared to deepen the conversation.

Your Instructor: Theodore Yurevitch

The series will be led by Theodore Yurevitch, Associate Professor in the Department of Composition and Literary Studies at Austin Community College.

Theo holds an MA in English from Vanderbilt and an MFA in Creative Writing from Florida State University. His academic background includes Early Modern English literature, nineteenth-century literature, and the novel. He is especially interested in the way deep reading makes people better writers.

The series runs for four weeks:
Mondays from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
June 22 through July 13
at The Rosedale Society.
