Opening Reception: BodyREVOLT, Lauren Noelle Oliver
BodyREVOLT presents a collection of work that mixes photography, video, sculpture, and performance to create fantastical forms that interrogate the politics and possibilities of the body. Through a range of lens-based practices, Oliver manipulates light to create a visual world that correlates flesh with organic and inorganic materials, including nylon, sand, polyfill, wire, dough, eggs, latex, and air.
Limited to the time it takes for a shutter to open and close, the resulting images don’t posit a static end-goal. Instead, they remain suspended in time, bursting with potential energy, remaining ambivalent in their anticipation of violence or resolution, expansion or contraction, destruction or preservation.
Lauren Noelle Oliver is an interdisciplinary artist based in Queens, NY. She uses photography, performance, and material interventions to explore embodiment and the representation of the female body. She received her BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase and her MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
We look forward to celebrating this incredible body of work with you!
