About Event

What do we mean when we say something is responsible, fair, just - especially in AI contexts? Are these absolutes, or shifting ideals? Together with Max Riechen we will explore these terms through lenses from modern philosophy of law. The goal is not to fix a single definition, but to better understand the questions we should be asking when designing and deploying AI systems.

Max Riechen will then share how Liip has turned these reflections into practice. We’ll look at ZüriCityGPT, from rapid prototype to a more mature open-source-LLM version, at Alva, the AI assistant integrated into Basel-Stadt’s digital services as well as the work done for the chatbots for the University Hospital of Geneva. These projects show how responsible AI can be pursued without heavyweight frameworks—through pragmatic steps, openness, and iteration.

In the co-creative part of the session, participants will reflect on barriers that hold organisations back from adopting responsible AI, then gather practical ideas for how such practices can be integrated across different time horizons. By the end, attendees will see more clearly how philosophy and practice connect, what barriers exist today, and which actions can help embed responsible AI in everyday work.
