About the Instructor
Alex is a dually licensed associate clinical social worker (ASW) and substance use counselor residing in San Diego, California. Throughout his career, he has provided psychotherapy to adults and adolescents experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress. Alex has served a variety of populations, from veterans to justice-involved individuals. In his current role, he provides counseling services to men in early recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
Alex began his clinical journey as a drug and alcohol counselor at a nonprofit agency in Chicago, where he primarily supported under-resourced individuals involved with the criminal justice system. In one of these roles, Alex launched an outpatient program at a safety net hospital on the Far South Side during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a graduate student, Alex received extensive training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) at Northwestern University.
Alex offers individualized care to help his clients effectively navigate emotional distress and lead more fulfilling lives. He draws heavily from contextual behavioral science, integrating humanistic psychology, mindfulness, and somatic interventions. Alex’s practice is informed by his personal experience with meditation, which began at the Chicago Zen Center during his undergraduate studies.
In his free time, Alex enjoys producing electronic music, watching stand-up comedy, and hiking along the Pacific Coast. He holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago.
