God is Change: Poetry Workshop
Octavia taught us that moments of chaos, social degradation, and distraction are the moments it is most crucial to know oneself in the deepest ways. She showed us how dead serious fiction writing can be, anticipating the myriad of crises we exist in today as we also try to maintain groundedness and our capacity for humanness.
This workshop invites persistent clarity and liberating reflection, using speculative writing practices to support bringing the self into alignment with what is. No experience necessary!
Self is. Self is body and bodily perception. Self is thought, memory, belief. Self creates. Self destroys. Self learns, discovers, becomes. Self shapes. Self adapts. Self invents its own reasons for being. To shape God, shape Self. – Octavia Butler
About the Instructor:
amalee bea (they/she) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans experimental writing, painting, installation, and the curatorial. Amalee’s practice is animated by the principle that we should do what we can with what we have to leave our communities more beautiful than we found them.
About Earthseed Remnants:
Earthseed Remnants is a group exhibition on endurance, presence, and shaping the future from trace and memory.
Co-curated by Jy Jimmie Gabiola and Lynse Cooper, the exhibition brings together five artists whose practices excavate what persists — in land, in body, in archive, in imagination. Across photography, alternative process, sculpture, and installation, Earthseed Remnants asks: what do we carry forward, and what do we allow to transform?
