After the Idea: 10 Week Program
Most founders come through early-stage programming with a strong idea and a clear framework for how to build. What they often leave without is the execution layer underneath: how to communicate what they're building, how to build systems that run without them in the room, and how to read the data that tells them whether any of it is working.
After the Idea is a ten-session biweekly program for ideation and early-stage founders at Upstart Collective, open to the broader Portland founder community. Each session covers one foundational concept that founders need before they scale. The framing is intentionally broader than marketing: these sessions are about how businesses communicate, operate, and grow.
HOW IT FITS
Every founder goes through an initiation phase: learning the framework, understanding the roadmap, getting oriented to what building a business actually requires. Programs like Start Your Startup do that work well.
After the Idea picks up where that phase ends. It is the implementation layer between having the idea and knowing how to run it systematically. The systematic principles that drive the program are rooted in marketing, but they apply across every function of an early-stage business: how you communicate, how you operate, how you make decisions, and how you build something that doesn't fall apart when it starts to grow.
Founders who have been through an initiation program will recognize the framework immediately. Founders who haven't will find that the program stands on its own.
Sessions run every other Wednesday from 2 to 3pm, beginning August 5, 2026 and ending December 16, 2026. Thanksgiving week is skipped.
