About the book
This book is a collection of essays originally published in Frieze magazine between 2014 and 2017, where Rawsthorn addressees what she believes are the ‘most important issues in contemporary design … when the discipline itself and its impact on our lives are changing dramatically’.
The book’s title is a homage to László Moholy-Nagy, who proclaimed that ‘designing is not a profession but an attitude’
“The idea of design and the profession of the designer has to be transformed from the notion of a specialist function into a generally valid attitude of resourcefulness and inventiveness which allows projects to be seen not in isolation but in relationship with the need of the individual and the community.” Moholy-Nagy
