PauseAI x ControlAI Oxfordshire Cross-Over
AI now poses extremely serious risks to our national security.
In a series of unprecedented incidents this summer, over 1,000 OpenAI agents escaped their testbed, created secret message boards, and organised into a self-designated ‘swarm’ that hacked into the infrastructure of Hugging Face and OpenAI itself, without OpenAI's knowledge. These attacks would have been criminal offences if they had been carried out by humans. Yet no one has been held accountable to date.
What can you do to help prevent this looming disaster?
This event will be an introduction to constituent engagement for AI safety and serve as an opportunity to meet people already working on the problem, from established campaigners and researchers to fellow students.
The event will begin with a brief welcome address, followed by:
An introduction to AI safety, existential risk, and PauseAI by Joseph Miller, Director of PauseAI UK and DPhil student in AI safety at Oxford University
A talk on civic engagement by Max Salmon, Campaigns Strategist and Citizen Engagement Lead at ControlAI
An audience Q&A to close
No prior AI expertise is required to attend, and complimentary refreshments will be provided. Note that this event is open to students and non-students.
