Growing Good Saturday: The birds & bees
This Growing Good Saturday is hosted in partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor.
The day will begin with a climate micro-lesson, "Birds & the Bees: Chickens and Pollinator Plants," exploring how healthy ecosystems depend on biodiversity and how each of us can support climate resilience right where we live. Together, we'll learn about the vital relationship between pollinators, native plants, and regenerative agriculture, and discover how backyard chickens contribute to healthy soils, nutrient cycling, and resilient local food systems.
We'll then celebrate a joyful milestone at Barron Creek Farm with a Chicken Homecoming Party, welcoming our first flock to the farm! This family-friendly celebration will introduce participants to the important role chickens play in regenerative farming while giving everyone a chance to meet our newest feathered farm residents.
Afterward, volunteers will help plant pollinator-friendly flowers throughout the farm, creating habitat for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other beneficial wildlife. Every participant will also receive pollinator flower seeds and/or organic flower starts to plant at home, helping expand pollinator habitat across our community and empowering volunteers to continue their climate action long after the event ends.
There will be activities for all ages and abilities, please bring friends and RSVP so we have enough yummy food and coffee!☕️
