BANKERS’ HOURS
Alex Johnson and Kiah Lau Haslett are going to be in Toronto. We wanted to use the opportunity to do something a little different and bring together people from Canadian and U.S. banking, fintech, payments and policy.
We could have added another reception to everyone’s calendar. Instead, we are taking over a rooftop and working from it.
Bring your laptop and whatever you are already working on. Find a seat and carry on with your day. Come at 10 or come at 2. Stay for an hour or stay until the bank closes.
If a conversation starts, have it. If you need to put your headphones on and finish something, everyone here understands.
Alex and Kiah will be doing the same thing. Nobody is on a stage, including them. The idea is to give people enough time and space to meet, work alongside one another and share perspectives without forcing every conversation into a panel or three-minute networking exchange.
There is a lot changing in Canadian and U.S. banking. Both countries are dealing with many of the same questions around financial data, payment infrastructure and access to the banking system, while taking different approaches.
That will come up because of who is in the room. It is the context, not an agenda.
None of that change happens on its own. It takes people who connect the ones building new things with the institutions running the system. Fintech Cadence plays that ecosystem role for this day, bringing startups, mentors and other like-minded people into the room, and an event like this would not be possible without them. What to expect

This event is brought to you with the help of our Title Partner:
Sardine
Sardine is an agentic risk platform that unifies fraud prevention, compliance, and AML operations for banks, fintechs, and merchants. Founded by a team that scaled Coinbase, launched Revolut US, and fought fraud at PayPal, Zelle, and Uber, the company combines device intelligence, behavioural biometrics, and consortium fraud data with AI agents that take on the investigative work (sanctions screening, due diligence, case triage, SAR drafting) that has traditionally consumed fraud and compliance teams. Sardine covers the full lifecycle from KYC/KYB onboarding through payment and transaction monitoring across ACH, wire, card, and real-time rails, and counts FIS, Nubank, Intuit, Experian, and Deel among its customers. Their thesis is simple: money should move fast without moving risk with it.
And we wouldn't be here without our Community Partners:

Walnut Insurance
Walnut is a Toronto-based embedded insurance platform that lets banks, fintechs, telcos, and consumer brands offer insurance directly inside their own products. Founded in 2020, the company acts as the technology and distribution layer between partners and more than a dozen carriers, handling underwriting connectivity, licensing, and compliance so that a partner with no insurance experience can launch a program in days rather than years. Their API and no-code integrations support everything from life, home, auto, and tenant coverage to device protection, warranties, travel, and group benefits. Walnut is backed by ATB Financial and National Bank's NAventures, and powers programs with partners including Neo Financial, RBC Insurance, TELUS, and Tim Hortons.
