[OPENING RECEPTION] Motif by Keiko Moriuchi, the Final Gutai Member
Please join us for the opening of Motif by Keiko Moriuchi, the Final Gutai Member.
Keiko Moriuchi (Japanese, b. 1943) was the very last member to join the Gutai Art Association (1954—1972), Japan's first radical post-war art group and movement. She remains the only member personally invited by its founder, Jirō Yoshihara, an invitation that speaks to the singularity and strength of her practice.
For decades, Sensei Moriuchi has worked with gold leaf, building layered surfaces that shift and shimmer in response to light, glowing softly by day, deepening under candlelight at night. Her paintings explore cosmic order, sacred geometry, and mathematical systems; ancient symbols are reactivated through gold, not as ornament, but as a living material.
The opening for Motif will begin with a sacred blessing by Sensei to welcome guests to the exhibition. It offers an intimate glimpse into the spiritual foundation of her work. Please arrive 15 minutes before the opening at 11AM to attend the blessing.

目を培う目薬はない。金を見ることで、健全な宇宙が見えてくる。
There is no remedy to awaken the eyes. To gaze upon the universe, you need to fix your eyes on gold.
