The Secret Ingredient Writer's Salon: Touch
Five senses. Five sessions. One story only you can tell.
Week 5 of our sensory journey explores the sense of touch—the textures, temperatures, physical sensations, and embodied memories that allow a story to be felt on the page.
The Secret Ingredient Writer's Salon is for essayists and memoirists ready to let themselves back into their own story.
This session may be attended on its own or as part of the five-week salon.
SESSION 5: TOUCH
Our final sense is the most intimate: texture, temperature, weight, pressure, all part of the body's own memory.
For me, putting my hands in dirt or sand connects me to the earth and helps me stay grounded in a particular place. I feel the coolness of the grains and pebbles, the way the soil briefly replicates my fingerprint before it disappears.
For others, it's a hand held in grief. The softness of a well-worn sweater. Bare feet on cool tile. The reassuring weight of a beloved object. Our bodies often remember what our minds have forgotten.
In this final session, we'll explore touch as a portal to memory, writing our way through the sensations that ground us, comfort us, unsettle us, and connect us to one another.
