Guardrails for Responsible (Local) AI & Community Sovereignty

AI is moving from chatbots that talk to agents that act — booking, buying, filing, deciding. This free library program asks a practical question: what rules should our community set so AI serves residents, keeps our data local, and fails safely when it goes wrong?

​Data scientist and entrepreneur Aleks Jakulin will explain, in plain language, why the real risk isn't what AI says but what it's allowed to do — and why running AI locally, on hardware and data the community controls, changes who holds the power. Tony Audas of CommunityInternet will interview Aleks, then the audience will break into groups to brainstorm ballot proposal ideas for AI guardrails in our own city.

​No technical background needed. Engineers, librarians, parents, small-business owners, students and civic volunteers are all welcome — every group needs both people who know how the technology works and people who know how the community works.
