About Event

Some stories are told from the perspective of non-human animals: rabbits in Watership Down by Richard Adams, for example, or a cat in The Goodbye Cat by Hiro Arikawa. Adopting an animal's viewpoint suggests these stories broaden our minds and make us aware of a world beyond our own understanding. However, many of these narratives reinforce human superiority and dismiss experiences of other beings. Is it even possible to write from the standpoint of another being? And if so, when and why can we attempt it, and how can this be done ethically?

In this workshop, we'll explore these questions together as we write short stories from an animal's point of view, which we then discuss together.

After the workshop there is a free vegan lunch for all participants in the community kitchen downstairs.
