Film Screening of "1945" - Book Launch and Conversation with Gábor T. Szántó, author of "1945 and Other Stories"

​After the screening there will be a book launch and conversation with Gábor T. Szántó, author of “1945 and Other Stories”, which the movie was based on.

​Synopsis:
On a summer day in 1945, an Orthodox man and his grown son return to a village in Hungary while the villagers prepare for the wedding of the town clerk's son. The townspeople – suspicious, remorseful, fearful, and cunning – expect the worst and behave accordingly. The town clerk fears the men may be heirs of the village's deported Jews and expects them to demand their illegally acquired property back.

​About the Author:
Hungarian novelist, essayist, and editor-in-chief of Szombat, a Jewish political and cultural monthly. He has published several novels, collections of short stories, and a book of poetry. His works have been translated in several languages. Kafka macskái (Kafka’s Cats) has been translated into Turkish, Italian and Czech; Europa Symphony into Finnish, Turkish, with the English edition forthcoming. His short story collection 1945 és más történetek (1945 and Other Stories) has been translated into English, Italian, Finnish, Chinese and Slovakian.
