Taste of Persia: A Cook's Travels Through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, and Kurdistan by Naomi Duguid

One-sentence description: Multiple award-winning book that introduces us to a culinary paradise where ancient legends and ruins rub shoulders with new beginnings—where a wealth of history and culinary traditions makes it a compelling place to read about for cooks and travelers and for anyone hankering to experience the food of a wider world.

My thoughts: What is now Iran was once Persia, and this glorious book combines stories of place, people, and the food that binds them.

The recipes I've selected for our feast are:

  1. Baku-style Tomato Salad

  2. Spinach Borani

  3. Grilled Eggplant with Pomegranate Seeds

  4. Georgian Leek Pate

  5. Azeri Mushrooms

  6. New Year’s Bean Soup

  7. Cabbage Rolls Stuffed with Beans & Tart Fruit

  8. Half-moon Hand Pies

  9. Kerchief Flatbreads from Kurdistan

  10. Cardamom Cookies

Recipes & Google sheet to choose your recipe to follow once you've registered.

How this books & cooks "club" works:
For each gathering, I will give you the name of the book, a short description, and a choice of 10 recipes to make taken from the book (from snacks and starters, to salads and soups, to mains and sweet endings.)

You choose your recipe and add your name next to it in a shared Google file - one person per recipe (first-come, first served). I'll send you the recipes when you register.

Make the recipe and bring one portion to our gathering (please, only ONE portion!) and then we'll share each dish (a bite/taste each), chat about the recipe and the book, and see what happens next.

That's it!
