Beyond Eternal Mongolia: Scaling Public and Private Capital for Conservation
How PFPs, trust funds and biodiversity credits can raise lasting conservation finance, with lessons for pastoral countries.
Organizers:
Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia (MECC), Mongolian Nature's Legacy Foundation (MNLF) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
Description
Meeting the finance goal of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (Target 19) will take more than any single mechanism. This session looks beyond the Eternal Mongolia Project Finance for Permanence to the wider mix of public and private capital that can sustain conservation over the long term.
Speakers will examine three mechanisms side by side: Project Finance for Permanence, conservation trust funds and biodiversity credits. The discussion draws out lessons for other steppe and pastoral countries working to finance their national biodiversity commitments.
The session is co-hosted by MECC, TNC and MNLF at the Government of Mongolia Pavilion. Access to the Blue Zone requires CBD COP17 accreditation.
