The Sovereign Stack - ʻĀina Foundry

​When Hawaii's data lives on someone else's servers, under someone else's terms, who really owns it? Aina Foundry, the technology arm of Purple Maiʻa, has spent the past year laying the groundwork for what we call the Sovereign Stack: open models benchmarked against frontier ones, AI running on hardware we own, and the beginnings of something bigger — a Hawaiian-governed AI system, where the community decides what it answers, what it can access, and how it changes. To be clear about what this isn't: we're not chasing AGI, and we're not building a digital stand-in for any person or tradition. We're shaping a governed tool that is helpful and appropriate in Hawaiʻi, built for Purple Maiʻa's own needs first, the way AWS began as internal infrastructure. We're not there yet, and that's part of the story.
