Stars4Media Day XII
High-Level public conference, Brussels -
Democracy is under strain: geopolitical tensions, external interference and dominance of platforms.
This annual event connects three main topics under democracy: EU and NATO coverage in Eastern Europe and the wider ecosystem, and the evolution of the Brussels press corps. Each action taken so far is useful: journalists training, fact-checking regulating GAFA’s, investing in data centres, etc…
But clearly, the situation worsens. We need media resilience, more correspondents, and chiefly: a better information ecosystem, including Trusted European Platforms. Following modest but promising references in the Democracy Shield, we will explore the next steps together. As President Macron warned, “we were incredibly naive to entrust our democratic space to social networks controlled by large American entrepreneurs or Chinese companies.”
With credible partners and high-level speakers from the EU institutions, member states' media, research, business and some of the best journalists from Eastern and Western Europe.
