MCP-Apps-SDK: Bridging MCP servers with chat-native applications
Abstract: OpenAI has recently introduced a major new capability: apps integrated directly into ChatGPT. They have released their Apps SDK, which developers can use to create apps embedded in a chatGPT conversation. However, they have not released tooling to allow developers to integrate these apps into their own AI products- at this time, apps can only be used and tested in chatGPT. To address this, we have released our own light-weight, open-source package "mcp-apps-sdk" that gives developers a way to test their apps in a self-contained local environment, and even integrate these apps into their products. We will discuss how apps built with Apps SDK work and how they fit into the framework of MCP servers. Then we will explain what our "mcp-apps-sdk" package contains, and demonstrate how it can be used. We will briefly share what are are building in general intelligence labs as well.
