What Does Tanzania's Energy Response Look Like?
Energy Hub Tanzania is a platform dedicated to enhancing public understanding of the country’s energy sector. In 2026, we are hosting Powering the Conversation, a monthly webinar series designed to inform and engage the public on key energy topics.
Session 02 builds on our first session, which mapped the energy access challenges in Tanzania. This session focuses on the response — the solutions, plans, and commitments that the country has put in place to improve energy access.
The session is informational: the goal is to ensure all participants have a common, factual foundation before discussions begin. The invited speaker will present key insights and close with a brief personal reflection to open the floor for questions.
Presentation Focus
The speaker will cover three main areas:
Current Solutions: Overview of existing energy solutions, including grid extension, off-grid and mini-grid systems, stand-alone solar, and clean cooking options such as LPG, improved biomass stoves, and biogas. Where these solutions are deployed and how far they reach.
Plans and Projections: Tanzania’s energy planning frameworks — especially the Power System Master Plan (PSMP) — including generation, transmission, and distribution projects over the coming years, and what these mean for underserved communities.
Commitments: Tanzania’s formal commitments through its Energy Compact, NDC, and SDG7 targets, and what implementation looks like in practice.
What Participants Will Gain
By the end of the session, attendees will:
Understand the energy solutions currently in place and their reach across Tanzania.
Be familiar with the country’s energy plans and projections in clear, plain terms.
Know Tanzania’s national energy commitments and how they are being implemented.
Be prepared to form informed opinions and engage in the discussion.
