Slow Ventures' Slop Con NYC
For most of the history of computers, "coding" was reserved to a small subset of the org chart: developers and engineers. In 2026, AI coding assistants have democratized code. For the first time, anyone can yell at their terminal in English and ship functional code in ~2 hours.
This shift in coding capabilities has introduced a new type of job: the "slop cannon."
The "slop cannon" transcends sales, marketing, product, and engineering. Slop cannons are high velocity, high tool use generalists who ship first and ask questions later, and good slop cannons can be startups' highest leverage employees.
To highlight the burgeoning slop cannon labor market, Slow Ventures is hosting our first ever "Slop Con" in New York on May 2nd.
Slop Con is a hackathon for who anyone who identifies as a slop cannon or aspires to become one (engineer or not). Attendees will have eight hours to build their best slop products (with assistance from TAs from leading AI and tech companies in NYC), before presenting for a panel of judges at the end of the day.
We have prizes for the top slop creators, ranging from cash to Mac Minis, and we'll have plenty of pizza, drinks, and, of course, tokens for everyone.
Sign up here to come slop with Slow on May 2nd.
