Who Owns the Outcome? Accountability in the Age of AI
Session Description:
AI ethics frameworks are everywhere. Genuine AI governance is not. In this session, Phaedra Boinodiris — author of AI for the Rest of Us and Global Lead of IBM Consulting's Responsible AI Practice — makes the case that the distance between a principle and an enforceable requirement is where harm lives. Drawing on years of practitioner work, she walks participants through the structural reasons governance fails — liability laundering, automation bias, the exclusion of domain experts, and the architectural decisions that get made before any ethics policy is ever read. Participants leave with a practical mental model for understanding how AI governance works (and doesn't), and a teaching framework they can bring back to their own communities, classrooms, and organizations.
