Island ECC x FaithTech Hong Kong Hackathon: Building Redemptive Technology for Hong Kong
Use your skills. Serve real needs. Build technology that helps restore what is broken.
Island ECC and FaithTech are hosting a 1.5 day hackathon for builders, designers, ministry leaders, entrepreneurs, operators, AI enthusiasts, strategists, and problem solvers who want to work on real challenges facing the Church and the city.
The weekend will be guided by the FaithTech Create Playbook, FaithTech’s practical framework for moving from a real problem to a thoughtful first solution. Teams will not just jump straight into building. We will slow down enough to understand the people affected, clarify the need, examine the systems around the problem, and ask what kind of response would be genuinely helpful.
At the heart of the weekend is the idea of redemptive technology: technology shaped by love of neighbor, human dignity, justice, wisdom, and the hope of restoration. We are not building for novelty, hype, or speed alone. We are asking how our tools, systems, workflows, and ideas can help repair harm, reduce friction, strengthen care, increase access, and serve people who are too often overlooked.
You are welcome if you can code. You are also welcome if you can design, organize, research, write, think strategically, understand people, lead a team, map a process, test an idea, or help make something practical.
By the end of the weekend, each team will present what they built, what they learned through the Create process, and how their project could continue in a way that serves people redemptively.
About the FaithTech Create Playbook
The FaithTech Create Playbook is the main framework for the hackathon.
It helps teams move through a clear creative process:
Understand and lament the problem before building
Listen to the people affected by the challenge
Clarify what a helpful first response could look like
Build with purpose, not just speed
Test ideas against real ministry constraints
Present a next step that can continue after the event
This means the hackathon is not only about making something in 1.5 days. It is about learning how to build wisely, collaboratively, and in service of people.
