About Event

What does a good grazing plan for a solar array look like?

Making an effective plan for sheep grazing and supplemental mowing that is adapted to your flock needs and site vegetation conditions is essential for solar grazing success. A lot goes into it. Graziers need a strategy for keeping vegetation within the contract-specified maximum and minimum heights. At the same time, their grazing plan should avoid overgrazing while keeping their costs in line with the vegetation management fee. On top of all of that, the grazier needs to be flexible and adaptable in their planning to handle contingencies that will arise, from excess rain to drought conditions and beyond.

At this webinar, ASGA’s Technical Advisor, Eric Bronson, will introduce ASGA’s exciting new resource: “Guide to Developing a Grazing Plan for Solar Sites.” Eric will be joined by other graziers to discuss the guide and how to approach grazing planning, including evaluating vegetation on solar sites, developing a grazing strategy and written plan, communicating your grazing strategy to the solar site staff, and how to be flexible when site conditions change. It is important to keep in mind that the grazing plan is a starting point. A key aspect of solar grazing success is being flexible enough to adapt your vegetation control strategies throughout the grazing season.

The webinar will provide useful guidance on flexible management strategies to graziers and help solar developers understand what grazing planning will look like on their sites.
