About Event

Every creative today is working against the same impossible brief: earn attention instantly, survive the scroll, and still communicate something real across not one, but several platforms. Most of us have learned to adapt to the platform rules instinctively. The problem is, instinct alone only takes you so far.

On May 28th, The Subtext is hosting Platform Fluency with Abby Adesanya, a copywriter, cultural critic, and fiction writer. This masterclass is for creatives who want to navigate platforms with style and conviction. From TikTok hooks and Twitter compression to Instagram mood-setting, this workshop explores how platforms influence the way we write, when those conventions are useful, and when they should be outright rejected. Abby will also share ways to reverse-engineer your work, compounding its effects across different formats.

What to expect:

  • The rhetorical patterns behind today's major platforms

  • Case studies in intentional (and rule-breaking) writing

  • A framework for stretching your writing across platforms

About Abby:
Abby Adesanya is a copywriter, cultural critic and fiction writer whose work explores the development of persona in the digital era. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Randolph College, where her graduate talk "Platform Poetics" examined how social media architecture shapes narrative voice.

Her cultural criticism has been published in The Cut, Business Insider, Mashable and Polygon. She is the recipient of the Zakiya Dalila Harris Scholarship from the Northern California Writers' Retreat, an alumna of the Tin House Workshop and is currently at work on an essay collection and a novel exploring identity in the age of algorithms.
