A Rainbow Bridge: Celebrating Pride from San Francisco to Cork

​Join us in partnership with the Consulate General of Ireland, and the GLBT Historical Society and Museum for a historic LGBTQ+ celebration!

​In March the GLBT Historical Society Museum and Cork Public Museum signed a historic memorandum of understanding, paving the way for the first international loan and exhibition of the original Rainbow Flag.

​Join us for a celebratory send-off as this iconic piece of LGBTQ+ history travels across the Atlantic from San Francisco to Ireland. The flag will be displayed at Cork Public Museum for four months.

Created in San Francisco in 1978, the rainbow Pride flag has become one of the most recognized symbols of LGBTQ+ visibility, resilience, and liberation around the world. Its journey to Cork is especially meaningful given the sister city relationship between San Francisco and Cork, making Cork the first international stop on the flag’s global tour.

This special send-off will bring together members of the LGBTQ+ community, civic leaders, cultural partners, and friends of Ireland and San Francisco to celebrate shared histories of activism, identity, creativity, and belonging.
