​Finnish writer and literary scholar Iida Turpeinen explores the fascinating intersections of science, literature, and the natural world. Her acclaimed debut novel, Beast of the sea, Elolliset, has captured international attention and has been sold in 22 languages.

​Iida Turpeinen, born in 1987, is fascinated by the literary possibilities of scientific research, as well as by the curious and surprising details to be found in the history of science. She lives in Helsinki and is currently working on a doctoral dissertation exploring the relationship between science and literature.

​Turpeinen’s early short stories about the relationship between humans and animals received literary awards. Beast of the Sea is her first novel and is currently being translated into more than 20 languages. It has already become the most successful Finnish debut novel of all time.

​Iida Turpeinen, geboren 1987, ist fasziniert von den literarischen Möglichkeiten wissenschaftlicher Forschung sowie von den
Kuriositäten und verblüffenden Details, die sich in der
Wissenschaftsgeschichte finden lassen. Sie lebt in Helsinki und
arbeitet derzeit an einer Dissertation über das Verhältnis von
Naturwissenschaft und Literatur. Schon Turpeinens frühe
Kurzgeschichten über die Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Tier wurden mit Preisen ausgezeichnet, »Das Wesen des Lebens« ist ihr erster Roman, der derzeit in über 20 Sprachen übersetzt wird und
jetzt schon das erfolgreichste finnische Debüt aller Zeiten ist.

​Iida Turpeinen (s. 1987) on helsinkiläinen kirjallisuudentutkija, joka valmistelee väitöskirjaa luonnontieteiden ja kirjallisuuden risteymistä. Kirjoittajana häntä kiehtovat tutkimustiedon kaunokirjalliset mahdollisuudet ja tieteen historian erikoiset anekdootit ja sivupolut. Hänen esikoisromaaninsa on vuonna 2023 julkastu Elolliset.
Elolliset voitti Helsingin Sanomien esikoiskirjapalkinnon. Teos oli
ehdolla myös kaunokirjallisuuden Finlandian, Tulenkantaja-palkinnon
sekä Adlibris- ja Storytel -palkintojen saajaksi. Elolliset herätti heti
ilmestyttyään laajaa kansainvälistä kiinnostusta, ja sen oikeudet on
myyty 22 kielialueelle.
