About Event

We’re excited to bring you another vJUG Connect event, this time live from the Amsterdam Java User Group!

Through vJUG Connect, we bring great events from local Java User Groups to the global Java community — giving you the opportunity to join the conversation live, wherever you are.

For this event, we’ll be streaming live from Amsterdam JUG at Backbase, where Steve Poole, Java Champion and Developer Relations Lead at HeroDevs, will be joined by an incredible panel of technology leaders to tackle a very timely question:

Did AI Just Break Software Security Forever?

AI is rapidly changing the way we build software, but it's also changing the way vulnerabilities can be discovered and exploited.

We may be entering a world where AI-powered vulnerability detection and exploitation can move faster than humans and organisations are able to respond.

So what does that mean for Java developers?

Across two live panel discussions, experts from organisations including Uber, Picnic, Oracle, JetBrains, Sonatype, Backbase, Cursor, Rabobank, Xebia, Axual and Albert Heijn will explore what's happening right now, where things could be heading, and what developers and organisations can do about it.

Panel 1: What's Happening With AI & Where's It Going?

18:00 – 19:00 Amsterdam time

Featuring:

  • Daniel Gebler — Picnic

  • Ilkka Turunen — Sonatype

  • Jeroen van Disseldorp — Axual

  • Judith Redi — Dash0

  • Paulo Cardoso — Backbase

  • Yanis Bousdira — Cursor

The first panel will look at the rapidly changing AI landscape, what we're already seeing in software development and security, and where these developments could take us next.

Panel 2: What Can We All Do To Keep Safe & Benefit?

19:30 – 20:30 Amsterdam time

Featuring:

  • Arno Koehler — Albert Heijn

  • Brian Vermeer — Snyk

  • Chris Howard — Uber

  • John Ceccarelli — JetBrains

  • Sarah Gruneison — Xebia

  • Soroosh Khodami — Rabobank

The second panel turns the conversation towards action: how developers and organisations can take advantage of AI while managing the new security challenges it creates.

We'll explore tools developers can use, the rise of open-source clearing houses, the impact of legislation, organisations worth following, and practical ways to prepare for what may be the next era of software security.
