Agentic AI in AEC – From Use Cases to Real Workflows

AEC Industry Chapter #2 | Agent Economy Association

The first meetup proved it: the right people are in the room. Now we go deeper.

The AEC Chapter of the Agent Economy Association is back – with seven practitioners who are not talking about AI in theory. They're using it. In their tools, in their workflows, in their planning processes. And they're willing to show you what that actually looks like.

Where we are on the map:

🤝 The Community is alive

The AEC Chapter has found its rhythm. We're a growing group of practitioners, builders, and thinkers who share an honest interest in what Agentic AI means for Architecture, Engineering & Construction – not in five years, but now. The second meetup picks up where we left off: less introduction, more depth.

🔧 Phase 1 in practice – Tools, workflows, and first real wins

SketchUp with Claude. AI-supported planning consultancy. Next-generation building services engineering. AI-first mindset for planning offices. This evening is full of concrete examples from people who have opened up their actual workflows – and are willing to talk about what works, what doesn't, and what they wish they'd known earlier.

📡 Phase 2 on the horizon – Data as the new foundation

Without the right data, agents remain dumb. Two talks go straight to the heart of this: what does an industry standard like SIA need to look like to be machine-readable? And what does it take to provide the material and environmental data that a truly sustainable agentic economy needs as fuel?

🤖 Phase 3 in view – The agentic firm

When tools communicate, workflows run automatically, and planning data is clean and semantically enriched – then the multi-agent planning firm is no longer a thought experiment. It's an engineering problem. We're mapping the path.

Who Should Attend

The mix is the method – because the best insights come from unexpected collisions:

  • BIM managers, digitalisation leads, and innovation heads from AEC firms and real estate

  • AI engineers, developers, and founders who sense the opportunity in the built environment and want a real entry point

  • Startup founders looking for a vertical with genuine complexity, real data, and real willingness to change

  • Investors and VCs exploring AEC as a test bed for their theses and portfolio strategies

  • Researchers from ETH, EPFL, HSLU, ZHAW, FHNW, OST and other universities working at the intersection of AI and the built environment

If you've never opened a BIM model or set foot on a construction site – welcome. This industry has more unsolved problems, more legacy to replace, and more data waiting to be activated than almost any other sector. Fresh eyes are not just tolerated here. They're needed.

What to Expect

Seven short impulse talks (10–15 min each), followed by open discussion and apéro. No panels, no slide marathons – just honest, concrete perspectives from people building at the frontier.

Update from the AEA: where the association stands, what's moving, what's next

🎤 Christoph Maurer – President Zentralkommission Informationsmanagement (ZI), SIA
SIA and AI: what does machine-readable mean for an industry standard? An update on MCP and the future of structured planning data

🎤 Ralf Weineck – art.space
*"Ruby, Claude und ich in SketchUp" – live from a real design workflow: what it looks like when an LLM becomes part of the creative process*

🎤 Andreas Rupf – SPEKTRUM
AI in planning consultancy and spatial planning: how advisory workflows change when agents enter the process

🎤 Rea Sodero – CEO & Co-Founder, Planlabs
Next-generation building services engineering: what an AI-native approach to Gebäudetechnikplanung looks like in practice

🎤 Phanos Hadjikyriakou – 2050 Material
Providing the fuel for the sustainable agentic economy: why material and environmental data is the unsexy prerequisite for everything that comes next

🎤 Max Vomhof – bauklar / opensource.construction
AI-first mindset for planning offices: not a technology question, but a culture question – and what that means for teams, tools, and clients
