"To everything there is a season… a time to gather stones, and a time to cast them away." — Ecclesiastes 3:5

Following the acclaimed exhibition A Time to Gather Stones, artist Anna Kiparis presents a new exhibition created exclusively for the historic Brompton Cemetery Chapel.

If A Time to Gather Stones reflected on hope and the expectation of a miracle, this new project suggests that waiting for a miracle is not always enough. There are moments when faith finds its expression in strength, endurance and the will to act. Conceived for a cemetery chapel, the project transforms graves into an integral part of the site-specific installation, embodying the scattered stones of Ecclesiastes. Works on green and white onyx draw on narratives from Genesis, the Old and New Testaments, while smaller compositions on agate expand these stories into more intimate reflections. Installed throughout the chapel as independent sculptural objects, the stones appear scattered across the space, transforming the biblical metaphor into a landscape of memory, responsibility and resolve.

Curated by Anzhela Popova

The exhibition's site-specific chapel is joined in collaboration by EX IDOLO, the London perfume house known for its devotion to rare materials and unhurried craft. Over three days, perfumer Tatiana Zhuk composes a bespoke fragrance live on site: dry grass on the first day, green grass on the second, oasis on the third, three states of field and stone resolving into a single quintessence held in the chapel's air, guided by the conviction that to fully experience what you see, it needs to be breathed in. The slow transformation becomes an act of quiet faith -  the kind that lets a viewer standing among stones believe, again, that the time to gather them will come sooner than expected.
