For our 12th edition, curated by Júnia Matsuura, we travel to Armenia🇦🇲 Outside Armenia, most cinephiles know only two names from its film history: Parajanov and Pelechian. Yet Soviet Armenian cinema produced some of the most visually striking films of its era, and most of them have never been seen abroad. My Armenian Phantoms opens that hidden archive through a deeply personal story: after losing her father, a beloved Armenian actor, filmmaker Tamara Stepanyan goes looking for him in the films he left behind. It's an evening about memory, loss, belonging, and what it means to carry a culture with you when you live far from home.
