About The Book
What happens when the clothes in your wardrobe tell one story but your true identity tells another?
In her debut book, personal stylist Neelam Mistry-Thaker invites you into a rich, colourful journey of self-discovery. Shaped by the richness of her Indian heritage, complexity of her British upbringing and the reality of growing up between cultures as a British-born South Asian, Neelam explores the quiet, lifelong work of navigating two worlds. Blending memoir, cultural reflection and style wisdom, Neelam uncovers the pressure to shrink, adapt and code switch just to belong.
But this is also a story of reclamation.
With warmth, honesty and a vibrant eye for detail, Neelam shows how your wardrobe can become a place of empowerment by forming a deeper connection to the home of your body, learning the power of colour and turning your visual identity into a form of expression to support the authentic transformation you’re stepping into.
Through personal stories, practical tools and gentle prompts, she helps you explore the narratives that have kept you stuck and how you can begin to use your wardrobes to weave together the parts of yourself you were never meant to separate.
For every woman who has ever felt ‘too much’ in one space and ‘not enough’ in another, this book is an invitation to dress in a way that honours all of you.
It’s time to create one identity that feels beautifully and unapologetically yours.
About Neelam
Neelam is a Personal Stylist whose work centres on identity, visibility and belonging. As a British South Asian woman, her own journey has involved navigating the space between multiple cultures, identities and expectations. These experiences have shaped her belief that personal style is about far more than clothing. It is a powerful tool for understanding who we are, how we have been shaped and how we choose to express ourselves.
Through her work, Neelam helps women explore who they are beyond the roles, expectations and inherited narratives that have influenced their sense of self. Using personal style as a gateway to deeper reflection, she creates spaces for women to reconnect with their identity and understand their relationship between belonging, self-expression and visibility.
Her approach draws on storytelling, conversation and self-inquiry, encouraging women to move beyond external definitions of who they should be and towards a more authentic understanding of themselves. Whether working one-to-one, facilitating workshops, consulting with brands or writing about identity and culture, Neelam's work invites people to consider what becomes possible when we stop seeing ourselves through the expectations of others.
At the heart of her practice is a desire to help women cultivate a stronger sense of self, express themselves with greater confidence and intention, and find a deeper sense of belonging within who they already are.
