【Academic Talk学术讲座】The Aesthetics of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting: A Western Neoclassical Perspective西方新古典主义哲学视角下的中国当代水墨审美分析
The development of contemporary ink painting is deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Chinese painting while continually engaging with new artistic ideas and aesthetic experiences shaped by a global cultural context. As tradition and contemporaneity, as well as Eastern and Western perspectives, remain in constant dialogue, how might we rethink the aesthetic significance of contemporary Chinese ink today?
In this lecture, art critic Zhao Hong approaches contemporary Chinese ink painting through the lens of Western Neoclassical philosophy and aesthetics. Drawing on the ideas of Immanuel Kant, Baltasar Gracián, and Blaise Pascal, he re-examines the aesthetic qualities of contemporary ink practice through the work of artist Chen Hanqing, exploring how the language of traditional brush and ink continues to evolve and find renewed expression within a contemporary cultural context.
More than an introduction to art history and aesthetic theory, this lecture offers a critical reflection on the future development of contemporary Chinese ink painting, providing audiences with a fresh perspective from which to engage with contemporary ink practice.
