About Event

With China and the United States building strong leads in green and digital technologies, the European Commission faces a major challenge: how to promote home-grown innovation — and ensure that innovation thrives within Europe.

To meet this challenge, the EU is increasingly turning to industrial policy and regulatory reform. But can these strategies succeed without sacrificing the Union’s core values of openness, non‑discrimination, and responsible innovation?

Over the first half of 2026, CERRE’s team of leading academics has examined these questions through a series of papers. Join us on 30 September 2026 for a full‑day conference bringing together CERRE experts, European policy‑makers, and industry leaders.

The conference will explore how well designed industrial policies and smart regulatory reforms — from AI governance to procurement incentives and subsidies — can help Europe build on its strengths.
