Science Works' Build Club

​Great tools decide what science is possible, unlocking questions that were previously inconceivable. Yet most researchers still spend their days working around tools that fight them, clunky and siloed.

​We think that's a design problem as much as an engineering one, and design problems get solved by people in a room talking and building. Build Club is one such room.

​Every weekend, designers, engineers, and scientists gather at the Science Works office to build new tools for science: beautiful, powerful, and interoperable by default. Scientists bring the friction from their real workflows. Designers and engineers build against it, live. Everyone ships something before the day is out.

​No talks, no panels, no decks. Just sustained, collaborative making, with an eclectic mix: an industrial designer reworking the layout of a wet lab, a typographer on figure design for new data formats, a PI paired with a frontend developer to improve scientific collaboration. Mentors are on hand throughout, ready when you hit a wall.
