Special BikeBus: Oct Transport Month

Join the Active Mobility Forum part of Young Urbanists NPC for a special Transport Month BikeBus through Rondebosch with the City of Cape Town Urban Mobility Directorate.
Our Southern Suburbs BikeBus has been running weekly for more than two years, bringing children, parents, teachers and community members together to cycle safely to school as a group.
For Transport Month 2026, we want to make this our biggest Bike Bus yet.
The ride will take place from approximately 7:00 to 7:10 to 08:00, starting near Liesbeek Parkway and Durban/Klipfontein Road in Mowbray and travelling through the Rondebosch school precinct towards Rondebosch. The final route and school pick-up points will be confirmed closer to the day.
Experienced marshals will support the group throughout the ride.

The BikeBus gives children a safer and more visible way to cycle to school, while helping build confidence, road awareness and a culture of active mobility.
We will also use the ride to highlight gaps in the existing walking and cycling network and identify practical improvements that can make these routes safer for children throughout the year.
The BikeBus is organised independently by the Active Mobility Forum and Young Urbanists and is not a school-run activity. We are simply asking schools to help share the invitation with parents and learners. Participation is voluntary, and parents or guardians register directly with us. We are not asking the school to take responsibility for organising or supervising the ride.
Parents, teachers, learners and community members are welcome to join.
