The Curious Collection presents a journey into 18th-century Edinburgh, where an influx of Italian musicians rubbed shoulders with Scottish fiddlers and dancing masters. From Italianate settings of Scots tunes to wild reworkings of Corelli's music by Scottish musicians, this concert explores the unique hybrid musical styles that flourished in 18th-century Scotland.
The programme includes modern premieres of newly discovered works by Scottish violinist-composer William McGibbon, alongside music by Arcangelo Corelli and Charles Macklean.
Founded in 2026 by violinist and researcher Aaron McGregor, The Curious Collection creates productions that reconnect audiences with Scotland's musical past. Bringing together early music performers and collaborators from theatre, dance and academia, the ensemble brings forgotten musical worlds back to life through performance, research and storytelling.
