From Expertise to Business: Building a Company of One
What if you don’t want to build the next venture-backed startup, but a profitable business around your own expertise, designed to fit your life rather than the other way around?
This Founder Coffee is for people who are building – or thinking about building – a business as a Company of One: no big team, no VC funding, no ambition to hire 50 people. Instead, the goal is to turn your experience, skills and network into a business that can work with one person at its core, while consciously designing a business that supports the life you want to live.
We’ll talk about questions such as:
How do you turn your expertise into something people will actually pay for?
How do you move from “freelancing” to building an actual business?
How do you develop and test products, positioning and pricing?
How do you find repeatable ways to generate business without constantly selling 1:1?
What can you productise, automate or deliver one-to-many?
How do you build a business around the life you want, instead of building your life around your work?
And how do you decide what not to build?
I’m building my own Company of One right now, so this won’t be a “here are the 10 rules for success” presentation. I’ll share what I’m testing, what I’ve learned so far and what I’m still figuring out – and I’d love to hear what others are building and struggling with.
Who should join?
This session is especially for experienced professionals who are good at what they do, but are starting to wonder whether they still want to spend the next 10 or 20 years building someone else’s business.
Maybe you’re currently working in a corporate, scaleup or startup and thinking about becoming independent. Maybe you already have an idea of what you could offer – or maybe you simply know that you have valuable expertise, but have no idea yet how to turn it into a business.
You’re equally welcome if you’ve already taken the leap and are currently figuring out how to build a Company of One that goes beyond simply selling your time as a freelancer.
No slides, no formal presentation – just coffee, practical experiences and an open conversation in a small group of max. 12 participants.
Want to learn more about me or connect before the event?
I’ve spent 14 years in B2B tech sales and now work with startups and scaleups on sales and growth challenges. I’ll bring my perspective, but I’m equally interested in what everyone else in the group is seeing and learning.
