About Event

✨ Side Quest ✨ is a new type of jam-style event at the intersection of art, science, and technology in Vancouver as the inaugural event of V2.

Choose Your Own Adventure by exploring, playing, and building your ideas with the Vancouver community over the span of a weekend. Bring your curiosity, dream big, and get ready to create the future of Vancouver.

Stay tuned for a theme reveal as we enter the world of V2. Visit v2.city to learn more.

This application will be open until 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, November 12.

What is a Side Quest?

Embark on a creative quest with your team to build an idea over a weekend that helps shape the future of Vancouver. You’ll have the weekend to create something unique that aligns with the theme (to be revealed). Examples include:

  • Deploying micro-sensors into community gardens to assess plant health

  • Go to Pacific Spirit Park, take photos of birds, and print an entire bird encyclopedia

  • Write, film, and showcase a short film about Vancouver

  • A park proposal for an abandoned parking lot

  • A 3D printed poetry installation

  • ….whatever you can dream

Disclaimer: You do NOT need to come in with an idea, you'll come up with one as part of the event! You also do not need to come in with a team, you will form one during the event!

What is a Mini Quest?

To make things interesting and inspire wonder and play, we’re curating short cross-discipline activities. You can participate in as many or little as you like. If you want to run one (whether it be a jam session, a lego station, or ramen 101), apply to volunteer here (by Mon Nov 4 at noon): https://tally.so/r/3xNPV9

What other Activities have we curated?

A team-building experience where you enter the world of your fellow curious, ambitious, and accomplished creatives, finding intersection points and bringing your ideas to the community.

A mid-point check-in to take stock of all you’ve done and learned, and plan for the next day.

🤔 FAQ

What will I actually be doing?

We'll give you a prompt relating to a problem that Vancouver faces, and you'll spend the weekend building a project related to it, embarking on mini quests (small side events), and meeting new people!

Is this a competition?

No! There will be plenty of opportunities for collaboration amongst other teams — you're going to make new friends, collaborate in fun ways, and work together to incubate innovative new solutions.

Is this event overnight?

No, we're going to have a venue cutoff at around 8pm on Saturday. You'll come back the next morning.

Are there prizes?

Yes, you won't be "judged" traditionally, but there will be superlative prizes. There are no monetary prizes.

Do I need to come with an idea/team?

Nope! You'll be forming your team and idea as part of the event.

Why does this cost money?

We want to ensure that we provide you with the best experience possible, and part of that involves making sure everyone is committed to showing up and creating a great atmosphere, which is why we ask for a small buy-in. This is a not-for-profit event, the money is being completely invested into the experience of the event.
