Refuse Refuse SF & Aquarium of the Bay Unite to Celebrate the Volunteers Who Make It Possible

This Giving Tuesday, two of San Francisco's most committed environmental organizations are joining forces to say thank you — and to invite their corporate partners to be part of something bigger.

Refuse Refuse SF, the grassroots organization that has mobilized thousands of volunteers to remove over 1.4 million gallons of trash from San Francisco's streets and neighborhoods, is partnering with Aquarium of the Bay, the PIER 39 nonprofit whose mission is to protect and restore San Francisco Bay from the Sierra to the Sea. Together, they're hosting a volunteer appreciation event that brings both communities — and their corporate sponsors — under one roof for an evening that celebrates the people who show up.

The partnership is a natural one. Refuse Refuse has built its reputation on the simple, powerful belief that clean streets and healthy waterways go hand in hand — that the trash picked up on a city block doesn't stay there. The Aquarium of the Bay, home to over 20,000 local marine animals and a leading voice for Bay conservation, has long understood the same thing. What happens on land ends up in the water. What happens in the water affects us all.

Giving Tuesday — the global day of generosity held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving — makes for the ideal backdrop. It's a moment when communities rally around shared values, and when corporate partners have an opportunity to demonstrate that their commitment to place and people is more than a line item. For the sponsors of both organizations, this event is a chance to stand alongside the volunteers whose weekend mornings and lunch hours have quietly kept San Francisco cleaner and its Bay more alive.

The event will honor volunteers from both organizations and offer corporate partners a meaningful touchpoint: a room full of people who care deeply about San Francisco, doing the work to protect it — and a chance to be recognized as part of the reason that work is possible.

For companies already invested in the health of the Bay Area, this is what good partnership looks like.
