TransportationCamp Atlanta
Presented by NRDC, this ATL Climate Week event is for residents, transportation professionals, advocates, students, community leaders, and others interested in the future of transportation and mobility in the region. Loosely modeled on the participatory format of TransportationCamp South, the event will create space for attendees to engage directly in conversations about the transportation issues that matter most to their communities. Rather than a traditional panel or conference, the event will emphasize discussion, participation, and connection across a range of perspectives and transportation interests. Attendees will help shape the conversation through a mix of facilitated discussions, informal sessions, lightning talks, and other interactive formats, creating an environment where everyone can participate rather than simply listen.
Potential topics could include transit funding and expansion, transportation demand management, regional connectivity, community transportation equity, pedestrian and bicycle safety, land use and development, transportation technology, climate resilience, and the relationship between mobility and economic opportunity. The event will create an open and constructive forum for discussing the broader transportation landscape in Metro Atlanta and the South, particularly issues and opportunities that can sometimes receive less attention amid the region’s ongoing debates around specific transportation projects or initiatives.
The event will be presented in partnership with Propel ATL, whose mission is to transform Atlanta’s streets into safe, inclusive, and thriving spaces for people to ride, walk, and roll. At a time when transportation conversations in Atlanta can become narrowly focused, this event will make room for a broader discussion: What kind of transportation system does a growing Metro Atlanta need, and what will it take to build it? With congestion, limited transportation options, and uneven access to mobility continuing to shape daily life across the region, Atlanta needs interventions that are both ambitious and grounded in practical reality. Through candid conversation and the exchange of ideas, attendees will examine what is and isn’t working today, explore innovative approaches to the region’s transportation challenges, and consider what it will take to build a transportation system that better serves the people who live and work here.
