About Event

The Our Ocean Conference (OOC) is an effective platform for delivering solutions to these challenges. The conference has generated over 3200 voluntary commitments that create or expand MPAs and OECMs, conserve biodiversity, support sustainable fisheries, deliver ocean-climate solutions and has mobilized over $176 billion in pledged finance. Over 40% of all global MPA coverage has been announced through OOC.

This event will highlight how the 2027 OOC, hosted by Canada, will build on this legacy of success to ratchet up global action needed to meet the KMBF's 2030 targets. Governments, Indigenous organizations, civil society, and other key actors will discuss how the commitment process can be leveraged to catalyze the partnerships, finance, and technical resources needed to protect and restore marine biodiversity.

Speakers:

Moderator: Cynthia Barzuna (World Resources Institute)

Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries (Canada)

Director Sangkil Lee, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Republic of Korea)

Jennifer Josenhans, National Director of Seablue Canada (Oceans North)

Louie Porta, Program Director for Marine Conservation (Moore Foundation)
