Dean's Distinguished Speaker Series - Twenty Years of Crypto: From Experiment to Institutional Finance
About
The Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series (DDSS) is Nanyang Business School’s flagship thought leadership platform, bringing together globally renowned scholars, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore the trends shaping the future of business and society. Through public lectures and moderated discussions, DDSS bridges cutting-edge research with real-world practice, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and meaningful exchange.
In this session, Professor Vivian Fang, the Sznewajs Family Chair in Finance at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, will examine how cryptocurrencies evolved from a cypherpunk experiment aimed at bypassing traditional financial institutions into an increasingly institutionalized asset class. Drawing on her research, teaching, and engagement with industry participants and policymakers, she will explore how investors, corporations, regulators, and market infrastructure are collectively reshaping the crypto ecosystem and driving its integration into modern finance. Ultimately, the lecture will use the evolution of crypto as a lens to illustrate how financial institutions adapt to, and ultimately absorb, transformative innovations, inviting the audience to consider what this process means for the future of digital assets and other emerging technologies.
