From intricate tank systems to river-fed agriculture, our ancestors built a culture that respected, managed, and celebrated water. Today, that relationship stands broken. The water crisis is deepening across Tamil Nadu. This raises a critical question: how & where did we lose the way? And, how can we revive our water heritage?
As part of Regenerate 2026, we invite the global Tamil diaspora to a virtual event with R. Balakrishnan (Retd. IAS), Chair, Indus Research Center, Chennai to search for answers.
Drawing from Sangam literature, inscriptions, & cultural memory, he will share:
Insights into ancient water systems & how landscapes were sustained for centuries
Reflections on how & why these systems declined
Pathways to restore water resilience today

சங்க இலக்கியத்திலிருந்து இன்றைய நீர் நெருக்கடியை சமாளிக்கும் பாடங்கள்

ஜூம் மெய்நிகர் சந்திப்பு
நுணுக்கமான ஏரிக் கட்டமைப்புகளிலிருந்து ஆறுகளை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்ட வேளாண்மை வரை, நம் முன்னோர்கள் நீரை மதித்து, நிர்வகித்து, கொண்டாடிய ஒரு பண்பாட்டை உருவாக்கினர். இன்று, அந்த மரபு மறைந்து விட்டது. தமிழ்நாடு முழுவதும் நீர் நெருக்கடி தீவிரமடைந்து வருகிறது. இப்போது எழும் ஒரு முக்கியமான கேள்விகள்: நாம் எதனால், எப்படி வழி மாறினோம்? நம் நீர் மரபை மீட்பது எப்படி?
நம்மை பதில் தேட வைக்க வருகிறார் திரு. ஆர். பாலகிருஷ்ணன் (IAS ஓய்வு; தலைவர், சென்னை இண்டஸ் ஆராய்ச்சி மையம்). உயிர் சூழல் 2026-ன் ஒரு பகுதியாக நடைபெறும் இந்த மெய்நிகர் நிகழ்விற்கு வெளி நாடு வாழ் தமிழ் சொந்தங்களை அன்புடன் அழைக்கிறோம்.
